FAQ

Q: Is online tuition suitable for all students?
A: Unfortunately, no. In my opinion, online tuition is more suitable for self-motivated students who strive to do well but lack confidence in the subject. With a positive learning attitude, students can focus well during online lessons and parents need not worry that the child will be distracted or not paying attention. With the convenience that comes with online tuition, these students are able to reap the benefits of my lesson effectively.

Q: What happens if my child is unable to attend a lesson?
A:  The zoom recording for the lesson will be sent to your child if he/she is absent. After watching the recording, he/she can contact Ms Poh to seek any clarifications. Do note that there should be at least 70% of attendance for the academic year for learning to be more effective.

Q: If my child is attending for e.g. your Mon class, can he join the Wed class from the same level if he/she can't make it for one of your Mon lessons?
A: It is possible, but not recommended. This is because classes are taught at different pace to cater to the different learning speed of each class. Therefore, the Mon and Wed classes may not necessarily be taught the same topics in a particular week.

Q: Is there tuition during public and school holidays?
A: Tuition is ongoing during March, June and September school holidays. There will also be tuition on selected public holidays. Lessons can possibly be shifted to the morning if students have no school activities.

Q: How do you decide on the topics to be taught given that different schools may be teaching different topics at the same time?
A: It is usually based on the order of topics in the textbook. Many times, topics are taught in advance before students learn them in school. This helps to further reinforce their learning in school especially for students who lack confidence in the subject.

Q: If my child encounters any math problem during online lesson, how do you provide guidance?
A: For such instances, students will be asked to take photo of their workings and WhatsApp me on the spot. I will proceed to do a Share Screen on Zoom so as to help them identify their mistakes and give further advice.

Q: How does my child submit his/her homework?
A: All students are required to scan their homework using the CamScanner App, before sending to me via WhatsApp for marking.

Q: Can my child go for physical lessons instead of online lessons?
A:  Only online lessons are available now. If you're not sure whether online lesson is effective for your child, he/she can attend a free trial lesson to assess his/her suitability.

Q: Will there be any learning materials provided?
A: Yes, the worksheets and notes will be sent to students via courier upon enrolment. Soft copies will be sent to students if I decide to provide additional materials.

Q: Are there any material fees/ deposit?
A: No deposit is required. A flat fee of $10 will be collected when courier is arranged to deliver the materials to your residential address. This arrangement is usually twice per year.

Q: When and how do I make payment for the tuition fees?
A: Tuition fees are collected at the beginning of every 4 lessons, via PayLah/ PayNow.  WhatsApp payment notification will be sent to parents when their child's tuition fee is due.

Q: Can my child consult you if he/she has problems with school work?
A: Yes, but I wish to seek your understanding that my reply may not be prompt as I may be teaching other classes, and priority is usually given to the Sec 4 students for consultation.

Q: Can I request for 1-to-1 online lessons for my child?
A: 1-1 online lessons can be arranged for existing students who wish to have extra lessons during the June and November holidays. This is based on a private one-to-one tuition rate of $90 per session (1.5 hours).

Q: Can my child join the class if he/she is taking IP math?
A: As the OP (O-level Program) and IP (Integrated Program) syllabus are different, it is not recommended for IP students as the classes are tailored to the OP syllabus.
